1. Can Anyone do Chiropractic Care?

Yes, they can. People of all ages can benefit from chiropractic care, from newborns to the elderly. The treatment is administered according to the need and age range of each patient.

2. What does the term "chiropractic adjustment" mean?

Chiropractic adjustment is the procedure the chiropractor performs to correct subluxations. It is intended to restore mobility, reduce pain, and restore normal joint function. It can be applied to the vertebrae or other body parts such as feet, knees, shoulders, ankles, and other joints.

3. What is a vertebral subluxation?

The term vertebral subluxation (International Code of Diseases - ICD M99.1) is used by chiropractors to describe a set of changes in a joint segment where alignment, movement integrity and joint function are altered, preventing correct communication between brain and body. Neurological manifestations from subluxation alter the functioning and ability of the body to adapt to different stimuli and situations, making it susceptible to injury, pain and other symptoms.

4. Why does it crack?

The crack or cavitation is a normal reaction of the synovial joint and occurs due to the presence of an intra-articular fluid that, when processed, forms small gas bubbles. The separation of the joint surfaces generated by the adjustment increases the internal pressure of the capsule, causing the bubbles to emit a sound wave (popping), as it usually does when crossing fingers.

5. Can we correct a joint without cracking it?

Yes, we can. There are techniques that do not cause cavitation.

6. Is the treatment painful?

No, it isn’t. Pre-existing inflammations or sensitivity of the affected area may generate mild discomfort during the touch, but the joint alignment (adjustment) is very specific and causes relief to the patient.

7. Is chiropractic care only for those who suffer from pains?

No, it isn’t. Chiropractic care is the only profession dedicated exclusively to the health of the spine and joints, so regular checkup of this system is as important as going to the doctor. Through adjustments we ensure that the spine and other joints work without interference, giving the body better conditions for the performance of day-to-day activities and for the practice of exercises.

8. How many sessions/consultations are necessary?

The treatment plan is defined during the first consultation and its duration takes into account several factors, including age, lifestyle, postural habits, duration of symptoms, among others that directly impact the number of sessions necessary to reach the goal of the patient.

9. What are the consequences of stopping treatment?

When a patient discontinues the treatment, he or she risks not achieving the goals set out in their recovery plan, making them vulnerable to recurrence of symptoms. The discipline and cooperation of patients directly influence the success of treatment.

10. Who can practice the profession?

Only professionals with a College Degree in Chiropractic (baccalaureate course with a workload of approximately 5,000 hours) are recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization). There is no country that rates chiropractic as a specialty of another health profession.

11. Is Chiropractic Care Treatment Scientifically Based?

Yes, it is. There are several scientific articles and research that, through their evidence, support and validate the safety, efficacy, effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care.

12. Are there any risks?

Like any therapeutic method, chiropractic has indications and contraindications. When the treatment is performed by a skill professional, the risks are minimal. Before starting treatment, make sure that the professional's training and registration are compatible with internationally accepted safety standards.
